The challenge

Oakhouse roasts some of the best coffee in Porto, but its old online shop was slow, hard to update and almost impossible to use on a phone. Subscriptions, the part of the business with the healthiest margins, were hidden three clicks deep.

The approach

I worked directly with the founders and their head roaster, from a photography direction day to launch. The goal was a shop that feels like walking into the café, and that a team of four can run without a developer on call.

  • An editorial home page that tells the story of each coffee, its farm and how to brew it
  • A three-question quiz that recommends a coffee and a delivery rhythm
  • A fast, accessible storefront where every page loads in around a second
  • A simple content setup, so the team can add new coffees and stories themselves

The outcome

Online conversion rose by almost half in the first quarter, subscriptions became the shop's largest source of revenue, and the site was recognised with a Site of the Day award. The team now publishes a new coffee story every week.
